Due to our size, cancellations affect us significantly; therefore, we adhere to a strict cancellation policy. Reservations may be cancelled without penalty up to 14 days prior to arrival. Reservations not cancelled by 4 p.m. EST (14 days before arrival) will be charged their deposit of a one-night stay.
Check-in time is 4 p.m.; checkout is 11 a.m. We are happy to store your luggage if you arrive before 4 p.m. or wish to depart later than 11 a.m.
Inside, the Greystone Inn is a smoke-free environment as are the public terraces.
Children are always welcome at the Greystone Inn. Pack n’ Plays are available at no charge. Call ahead, and one will be set up in your room when you arrive.
Well-trained and quiet pets are welcome. We have a limited number of pet rooms and they must be booked in advance of your arrival. If your pet is joining you, a $150 charge will be added. All pets must be on a leash while on property and please make sure pets are secure in their crates when you leave your room. A credit card must be presented at the time of check in to guarantee against damages or soiled carpets/soft goods in the room. Damages will be billed on a case-by-case basis.
Guests are strictly prohibited from placing their own boats on Lake Toxaway at any time. Paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and our 3-seater wooden boat can be rented through Guest Services. Private cruises on the Miss Lucy and Lucy II can be booked through our Concierge and motor boats can be rented at the Marina. Please contact the hotel to learn what boats are available for use during your stay.
The comfort, well-being and safety of our guests has always been our top priority. In addition to local, state and federal guidelines within our industry, we have implemented additional cleaning and sanitation protocols through the entire hotel and installed the REME HALO in the HVAC systems of public areas of the hotel. The HALO-LED is an in-duct, whole building air purification system that is both zero ozone compliant, mercury free and is intended to proactively treat every cubic inch of air-conditioned space, reducing airborne and surface contaminants.

As the largest private lake in the state, Lake Toxaway affords people the opportunity to enjoy a lake without feeling like they’re on a freeway. Paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, guide and pedal boats can be rented through Guest Services. Greystone Inn guests can reserve boats at the hotel or rent directly from the marina to cruise the lake or spend the afternoon water skiing or tubing. However, guests are strictly prohibited from placing their own boats on Lake Toxaway at any time.

Enjoy a 2 hour tubing adventure flowing down two miles of class one water on the French Broad River, the third oldest river in the world! Guaranteed to satisfy the entire family on a hot summer’s day.
Tubing Trip, 2 hour ride: $24
Paddle the oldest river in the world, older than the mountains it passes through, on your own or with a private guide, solo or tandem, in a canoe or kayak. Three, four or seven hour trips are available April – October. Guests are not required to have experience but must be able to swim and to sit down and get up on their own.
For wooden boat enthusiasts, The Lucy II lake cruise is a big attraction. With our Captain at the helm of this handcrafted mahogany boat, made by the hundred-year-old legendary Hacker-Craft Company, the quiet leisurely pace of the Lucy II is perfect for relaxing and enjoying a tour of the expansive lake and lavish lakeside homes along with some history.
Enjoy your own tranquil cruise around Lake Toxaway as you take the helm of The Greystone’s 2 passenger ‘Lightning Bug’. It’s unique cockpit is designed for conversation and can comfortably seat 2 adults with easy single controls for speed and direction. The silent electric motor allows you to enjoy still morning waters, romantic picnics, a cocktail cruise or just take in the beautiful serene surroundings and the company with you.
There are 8 species of fish in the 640-acre Lake Toxaway; rainbow and brown trout, large and small mouth bass, walleye, catfish, and blue gill, all game fish. With such limited access to the lake, those who enjoy fishing will experience quite the catch.
Fishing rods and bait are available at The Greystone for guests who wish to fish off our dock. $10 per person per day, includes tackle box (children under 5 years are free when accompanied by an adult)
Fishing license is required for all guests over 16 years of age. Guests 16 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult with a fishing license. Our Guest Services team will be happy to assist you in getting your fishing license.

There are countless miles of trout water in Western North Carolina and Lake Toxaway is at the epicenter of great trout fishing. From the beginner who needs help tying the knot, to the expert who wants to target the largest fish in the river, the area boasts several guided fly-fishing opportunities. Available year round.
Guests will enjoy a School of Trout class with the fly fishing guides of Headwaters Outfitters. Reservations are required in advance for this 3 hour course covering just the basics of fly fishing, casting, knot tying and rigging.

Apply what you’ve learned in the instructional, 3 hour course by combining with a 1/2 day, guided fly fishing trip. Costs include waders, boots, rods and reels

With over 250 waterfalls in the area, it’s not surprising to know this area is also known as the “land of the waterfalls”. Whitewater Falls with a 400-foot drop (highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains), beautiful Looking Glass falls, Sliding Rock where kids can slide down the falls, and a few private falls inside of Lake Toxaway Estates, are all just a short distance away.
Transylvania County is home to some of the finest cycling in North America. BIKE magazine calls the area “America’s Best Kept Secret.” Between DuPont State Forest, Pisgah Forest and nearby Panthertown Valley there are hundreds of miles of epic single-tracks to explore by mountain bike and plenty of road cycling opportunities in and around Brevard.

Horses and guided trail rides are available year-round for seasoned and beginner equestrians looking to explore the area. Pisgah National Forest has more than 100 miles of horseback riding trails, DuPont State Forest has over 80 miles of horseback riding trails and Gorges State Park, allows horses on their 12-mile round-trip Auger Hole Trail from the Frozen Creek Access to Turkey Pen Gap on the park’s western boundary.

This is a half day beginner canyoneering experience that includes a 75-foot waterfall rappel. Enjoy the hike to Cove Creek Canyon waterfall on trails that parallel the waterway as well as travel through parts of the waterway negotiating boulders. Participants should be in moderate to good physical shape and be comfortable hiking on rocks. No climbing or rappelling experience necessary.

Enjoy Pisgah National Forest with our half-day beginner climbing and rappelling program which emphasizes safety, instruction, and fun. This full day adventure includes a waterfall rappel that’s pictured in National Geographic magazine! The Riveter in Mills River adds another option for indoor climbing. Its environmental responsible construction was finished February 2020. It provides new indoor climbing options from bouldering to top rope.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina you will find the Sapphire Valley Ski Resort. The closest ski resort to Atlanta, GA and Greenville, SC; and only 20 minutes from The Greystone. The perfect place to learn how to ski or snowboard. You’ll start on the bunny slope before moving to the main slope which is only 1600 feet with a 200-foot vertical drop.
The entire family will enjoy Sapphire Valley’s 500-foot run with a vertical drop of 60 feet! Attendants and an easy “moving sidewalk” get you and your tube to the top and off you go.

Falconry was once considered “The Sport Of Kings” and is an ancient interaction between man and animal. Guests have an opportunity to experience falconry “Hands On” and fly birds of prey with Master Falconer Peter Kipp-duPont of Curtis Wright Falconry.
