We sat down with John Schoenbeck, the manager of Lake Toxaway Club, to discuss the activities and amenities at Lake Toxaway Club that our Greystone Inn guests will be able to enjoy during their visit.
What facilities are included at your club and what are they like?
Golf Course – Our 18-hole golf course received a $10 million Chris Spence redesign and upgrade ten years ago which elevated us to one of the best courses in the area according to the NC Golf Panel. In our Tom Fazio designed Golf Learning Center, our team of professionals offers a comprehensive player development program with swing analysis, custom club fitting, and on-going training programs.
Croquet – we have a championship-quality croquet facility with two lakeside Bentgrass world-class lawns. The facility offers basic and advanced instruction by a full time Croquet professional.
Tennis Facility – five beautifully maintained Har-Tru tennis courts and a professional staffed pro shop with top merchandise are complimented by a full schedule of events, social outings, round-robin tournaments, and personalized training throughout the season.
Pool – a heated outdoor swimming pool is popular for both adults and children. Casual gatherings for the children are planned throughout the summer allowing for families to meet and get to know one another.
Fitness Center – our state-of-the-art fitness center is available seven days a week during our busy season. Equipment includes Nautilus Resistance Equipment, Cyber Treadmills, Octane and Precor Elliptical Trainers, and free weights. Yoga and Pilates group classes are offered several times a week, hiking and biking to beauty spots are available, and personal training with one of our certified trainers is also an option.
What differentiates you from other country clubs?
We are located on the shores of North Carolina’s largest private lake and surrounded by picturesque mountain scenery. As the social hub of this timeless mountain retreat, the Club is proud to offer a wide selection of first-rate amenities and a full calendar of social events designed to appeal to every member and guest. What activities are there for children to enjoy?
Beginning the last week of June and carrying through the first week of August, emphasis is placed on ensuring that the kids are fully engaged in club activities. A Kid’s Camp with specialized clinics is offered three times a week to introduce young ones to golf, tennis, and croquet. Crafts, swimming, and hiking are also included on the weekly schedule. In addition, every Wednesday is Family Night at the Club with a buffet and show that is enjoyed by children and parents alike. A highlight is always our 4th of July Celebration with live music, games and prizes, bounce houses and obstacle courses, and multiple food stations featuring favorites like snow-cones, cotton candy, “The Southern Smokehouse”, Fried Chicken, and Philly cheesesteaks. Of course, we end the event with a BANG—a fantastic fireworks display with a mountain backdrop.
What are you most excited about in terms of The Greystone Inn re-opening and the relationship the club and The Greystone Inn will have?
Most of our club members were introduced to Lake Toxaway for the very first time by visiting the Greystone Inn. The impression on them from the Inn, the club, and the natural setting has proven impactful enough for them to buy a home and live at least part time in the community. Much like opening the new Clubhouse, the re-opening of the Greystone Inn is bringing great energy and new families to the community… many of which we expect will choose to stay here.

- Proficient in: Sports/Therapeutic, Swedish, Trigger Point, Myofascial Release, and Deep Tissue massage; Prenatal and Hot Stone certifications are a plus
- Strong communication and evaluation skills to assess client needs, establish treatment plans and deliver professional treatment recommendations
- Willingness to market and obtain clientele, self-motivated, team-oriented, flexible

- Maintain a friendly attitude. Welcome guests with a smile and warm greeting. Make all your guests feel comfortable and let them know you’re there to personally take care of them.
- Inform guests of specials and menu changes. Make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy. Each server must be able to describe and suggest all food and beverage menu items in an appealing manner and field questions about them.
- Each server is responsible for taking food and beverage orders from guests and entering orders in our point of sale system which relays orders to the kitchen and bar.
- Deliver food and beverages from kitchen and bar to guests in a timely manner. Arm-service only will be used when serving all food items and clearing tables. All plates must be carried quickly and efficiently without harming the food taste or presentation.
- Monitor and observe guests dining experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests.
- Communicate with the Manager on duty any problems encountered during service in a discreet manner.
- Prepare final bill, present check to the guest, accept payment, process credit card charges or make changes
- Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
- Process all guest check-ins by confirming reservations, assigning room, and issuing room key(s).
- Process all payment types such as room charges, cash, checks, debit, or credit.
- Process all check-outs including resolving any late and disputed charges.
- Answer, record, and process all guest calls, messages, requests, questions, or concerns.
- Supply guests with directions and information regarding property and local areas of interest.
- Run daily reports (number of arrivals, departures), identify any special requests, and check reports for accuracy.
- Greet Hotel guests in a warm and welcoming manner upon their arrival/departure.
- Open doors, assist customers as needed with wheelchair or walkers. .
- Provide directions as needed. Perform valet area access control responsibilities.
- Safely operate various vehicles types to/from the valet areas. Closely inspect all vehicles for damage and record findings on valet ticket. Secure all vehicles and return key tag and keys to the valet podium.

CANCELLATIONS
Due to our size, cancellations affect us significantly; therefore, we adhere to a strict cancellation policy. Reservations may be cancelled without penalty up to 14 days prior to arrival. Reservations not cancelled by 4 p.m. EST (14 days before arrival) will be charged their deposit of a one-night stay.
ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
Check-in time is 4 p.m.; checkout is 11 a.m. We are happy to store your luggage if you arrive before 4 p.m. or wish to depart later than 11 a.m.
SMOKING AND VAPING
Inside, the Greystone Inn is a smoke-free environment as are the public terraces.
CHILDREN
Children are always welcome at the Greystone Inn. Pack n’ Plays are available at no charge. Call ahead, and one will be set up in your room when you arrive.
PETS
Well-trained and quiet pets are welcome. We have a limited number of pet rooms and they must be booked in advance of your arrival. If your pet is joining you, a $150 charge will be added. All pets must be on a leash while on property and please make sure pets are secure in their crates when you leave your room. A credit card must be presented at the time of check in to guarantee against damages or soiled carpets/soft goods in the room. Damages will be billed on a case-by-case basis.
BOATS
Guests are strictly prohibited from placing their own boats on Lake Toxaway at any time. Paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and our 3-seater wooden boat can be rented through Guest Services. Private cruises on the Miss Lucy and Lucy II can be booked through our Concierge and motor boats can be rented at the Marina. Please contact the hotel to learn what boats are available for use during your stay.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
The comfort, well-being and safety of our guests has always been our top priority. In addition to local, state and federal guidelines within our industry, we have implemented additional cleaning and sanitation protocols through the entire hotel and installed the REME HALO in the HVAC systems of public areas of the hotel. The HALO-LED is an in-duct, whole building air purification system that is both zero ozone compliant, mercury free and is intended to proactively treat every cubic inch of air-conditioned space, reducing airborne and surface contaminants.
